What Information To Give Law Enforcement Without A Warrant

  1. Name of all occupants in that specific unit.
  2. Information on any activity you, staff or residents perceive that involves anyone in or around that unit (ie: see, smell, hear).

WHAT YOU SHOULD NOT GIVE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT WITHOUT A WARRANT

  1. Copies of any documents or copies of ID’s in your rental file.
  2. Information on tenant’s date of birth, bank accounts or any financial information or social security numbers.

WHEN DO LAW ENFORCEMENT NOT NEED A WARRANT TO ENTER

  1. If the police are in “hot pursuit” of a person believed to be involved in a crime.
  2. If there has been a report that the person’s welfare is in jeopardy.
  3. If the police perceive (hear or see) a situation where a person’s welfare may be in jeopardy (ie: a cry for help)

WHO DOES NOT NEED A WARRANT TO GET INFORMATION FROM OR A COPY OF THE FILE

(take copy of picture id of this agent and write down what information was released)

  1. Internal Revenue Service
  2. Child Support Enforcement Officer
  3. Census Work (info only, can not actually view the file)
